How it is calculated
Score needed: each completed exam contributes its weighted share, then:
Needed = (Target × (W_done + W_left) − Σ (score ÷ max × weight)) ÷ W_leftThe remaining weight defaults to 100% minus the weights entered; you can set it yourself.
Exam score: score = correct × points − wrong × penalty, and percentage = score ÷ maximum.
Worked example
Tests of 68% and 74% (15% each) and coursework of 81% (20%), aiming for 75% overall: you need 75% on the remaining 50%.
On a 40-question test with 29 right, 6 wrong and a 0.25 penalty: 27.5 / 40 = 68.75%.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the final grade calculator?
It takes several completed exams with different weights and scales, and also scores multiple-choice tests with negative marking.
Should I guess on multiple choice?
With 4 options and a 0.25 penalty, a blind guess breaks even on average; eliminating one wrong option makes guessing worthwhile.
What if the score needed is over 100%?
The target is not reachable with the remaining weight — try a lower target or check the weights.
