How it is calculated
Needed final = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ wwhere w is the final’s weight (e.g. 40% = 0.4) and current your grade on the work so far (same scale).
Worked example
Current grade 72%, final worth 40%, target 80%: needed = (80 − 72 × 0.6) ÷ 0.4 = 92% on the final.
Frequently asked questions
What if the result is over 100%?
The target is not reachable through the final alone; try a lower target or ask about extra credit.
Does it work for marks out of 20?
Yes — enter every mark on the same scale (e.g. all out of 20).
What if several components remain?
Use the semester grade calculator to enter every component with its weight.
