How it is calculated
Litres = distance × consumption ÷ 100 Cost = litres × price per litreSmall cars typically use 5–7 L/100 km, mid-size 7–9, large cars and SUVs 10–14. Consumption rises in city traffic and drops on highways at moderate speed.
Worked example
A 480 km round trip in a car using 6.5 L/100 km at 13 per litre: 480 × 6.5 ÷ 100 = 31.2 L = 405.6.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my consumption?
Fill the tank, note the odometer, refill after a distance: consumption = litres ÷ km × 100.
Does speed matter?
Yes — above 100 km/h consumption climbs fast due to air resistance.
Does air conditioning use more?
It can add 5–20% depending on weather and car.
